South Asia Takes Center Stage at Wikimedia ESEAP Conference 2026 in Taiwan

From 15–17 May 2026, I had the privilege of participating in the Wikimedia ESEAP Conference 2026, held at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The conference brought together Wikimedia enthusiasts, educators, and cultural representatives from across the ESEAP region, focusing on the themes of education, culture, and collaboration.

Participants engaged in a variety of workshops, presentations, and discussions aimed at enhancing the impact of Wikimedia projects in their respective communities. The event served as a platform for sharing innovative ideas and best practices, fostering a sense of unity among diverse cultures within South Asia and beyond.

Notable sessions included discussions on the importance of localizing content and the role of Wikimedia in preserving cultural heritage. Attendees also explored strategies for improving educational resources and increasing accessibility to knowledge. The conference not only highlighted the rich tapestry of South Asian culture but also emphasized the collaborative spirit that drives the Wikimedia movement forward.
