Charter Schools Gain Direct Access to Workforce Funding

A newly enacted law allows charter schools to directly petition the Department of Education for funding aimed at developing or expanding career and technical education programs. This funding is specifically designated for programs that lead to industry certifications listed on the CAPE Industry Certification Funding List.
The legislation, championed by Senator Corey Simon and Representative Jason Shoaf, opens up a wide array of opportunities for students. The programs eligible for funding span various fields, including ethical hacking, wastewater management, and phlebotomy, among many others.
By facilitating direct access to these funds, the law aims to enhance the quality of vocational education in charter schools, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills necessary to meet the demands of the workforce. This initiative not only promotes career readiness but also supports the growth of industries in need of skilled professionals. The move is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the educational landscape and fostering economic development.
